I’m working on getting the web site updated and will have all the classes posted soon. We’ve been planning classes for the rest of the year and hope you can join us. A little holiday sprinkled with some other favorite designs + lots of imagination.

Here’s the dog that I penciled with Lisa. Carol, Pat and I had a great time and I really enjoyed learning something new to me. It’s not finished but I am pleased with it.

Workshop Suprise with Kathie George!

Creative Figure

In addition to our yearly 3 day workshop, Kathie is bringing us a special surprise workshop this year, her Creative Figure. This looks like so much fun. I’m sure that this funky workshop will appeal to the creative spirit in those of you adventurous artists. Plan to join us for some Kathie type experimentation.

Thursday’s Special Workshop: Creative Figure!

This workshop requires separate registration.  $100

Note From Kathie:  THIS IS FUN, ACTUALLY. IT’S ABOUT DOING FIGURES, BUT NOT WORRYING ABOUT A LIKENESS.  THE WONKIER THE BETTER. IT IS DONE ON GATORBOARD, BUT COULD BE DONE ON HEAVY WATERCOLOR PAPER OR A PANEL. NOT CANVAS, THOUGH. NEED A MORE RIGID SURFACE SO THINGS WON’T CRACK OFF. IT’S ACRYLIC AND COLLAGE AND TEXTURE GELS. WE USE ALL SORTS OF STUFF. ANYTHING GOES. PAST STUDENTS HAVE HAD A BLAST. THEY CAN BRING PHOTO OR I JUST USE A PHOTO OR TWO FROM A FASHION MAGAZINE.  I GIVE THEM A BASIC FACE HAND-OUT – LIKE HOW TO LINE UP THE NOSE, EYES, ETC.  WE CONCENTRATE ON THAT A BIT, BUT THE CLOTHING, HAIR, ETC. CAN GO WILD. THEY CAN PUT THEIR PET INTO IT, AS I DID .

To-Do List

Landscape reference photo

The first of the year is a time for me to check my to-do list to see what ideas first  inspire me for my upcoming art work.  Some ideas sit on the list for awhile until the time comes when it just seems to stand out and say “it’s my turn now”.  It’s so much fun to look back at my lists. Some ideas are instantly inspiring and some ideas make me wonder what I meant by that.  I’m dragging out my list this month so stay tuned to see what’s coming up.

Our classes have their to-do lists also. Some ideas stay exciting and some fall by the way side. Here are a few ideas on our list for this winter:

Seminars Coming Up

2015 is an exciting year for seminars at Artful Endeavors.  Four seminars/workshops and all with exciting instructors coming to share their expertise with us.

Grace: Gail Schmidt

Grace: Gail Schmidt

ArtFling with Gail Schmidt and me is happening very soon, in a little over a week actually. We always have such fun when Gail is here, nice messy, creative fun. Get ready to laugh a lot and wear an apron.

Then our watercolor seminar with Susan Crouch is just at the end of May.  Susan is looking forward to sharing with us and she is such a wealth of information.  Our seminar is full, prep sheets have been sent out and we are ready to paint.

In July Ros Stallcup is here and again the seminar is full with enthusiastic painters. Participants have their preps and photos are posted. The projects this year are extra wonderful. I can’t decide which one I like best and maybe I don’t have to decide because I’ll just paint all of them.

You can see the photos on Ros seminar page on this web site.

Kathie George plans to be here with us in Nov. Check back for an update a little later.

What a look of concentration.

Our seminar with Kathie George was full of learning, experimenting, creating, and socializing. We met new friends and welcomed old ones, all wonderfully open and sharing.  Kathie’s teaching helped us to challenge ourselves and the paintings created were wonderful and definitely stretched our creativity.

We played with awesomely colorful dragonflies on Yupo paper. Definitely a new experience. No two paintings turned out even similar.  I’ll have to do some more experimenting with this exciting technique using inks and acrylic paints.

We’re already talking about next year. You’ll most like see more batik back on our schedule plus more exciting mixed media. Kathie is always coming up with something new.

A Little Tab Photo Artistry

Liz and Gail

Some of you know that I’m working my way through Sebastian Michaels Photoshop Artistry Online course and thoroughly enjoying it.  I’ve had fun learning to create art using my own photos, usually the photos that are not the best, and making something special from them.

web-George-11-24-04_edited-2I use Photoshop Elements for my photo artistry and have learned so much from the course. Love using the layers and collecting my own grunge textures to use for my creations.  I’ve also used photos of some of my paintings as a starting point.web-cow_edited-1

Using my smart phone or tablet with the already installed photo editing program seemed quite limited with possibilities, so I’ve searched for a photo editing program that had multiple artistic options in one app.  I found the PicsArt app and am enjoying it on my phone and tablet.  We found out that it is available for I Pad also and I have Maggie enjoying it too. Now I can be photo-artistic on the go.
